Rother Valley Coaches – Variations on No.9 – 27/11/18
Rue 21 have come up trumps again. I recently purchased the 2 versions of coach number 9, one with and one without duckets as passenger stock for Wimblehurst Road. The body mouldings come complete and need wheels and interior, glazing and roof detail to be added. I have just put both through the paint shops as per photos below
South Eastern & Chatham Rly Bolster – 24/11/18
After the success of the Brighton bolster, I got another of George Mitcheson’s 3D bolsters, this time the SE&CR version.
As this is going to be in SE&CR livery, I have modelled it with Hills brakegear on on side only.
Have to add Posts and chains but pleased so far.
Bolstered by the Brighton
Even in 3mm scale we have our own 3D printers – George Mitcheson has produced a number of 3D printed wagons and one that took my fancy was the London, Brighton and South Coast Rly Bolster wagon (the Brighton called then Batten wagons).
The wagon comes as a one piece moulding incorporating the body and sole bars.
W-irons, castings and brake gear and wheels supplied from the 3mm Society with chain from branchlines and d loops from brass wire.
An evenings work produced the wagon and it will soon be in the paint shop to be completed in Southern Railway livery.
Details and drawing for the wagon can be found in “An Illustrated History of Southern Wagons – Volume 2 LBSCR & minor companies published by OPC.
Paint shop
Sprayed the wagon with matt black primer and then used acrylics for the body.
The planking was coloured using Lifecolouts white wood set along with Tamiya Deck Tan acrylic paint. First time I have used life colour.
Next step will be to add couplings and transfers.
Colonel Stephens Pickering Railcar
My latest acquisition for Wimblehurst Road is a 3D printed 3mm scale body for a Pickering Railcar used by the Colonel on the Kent & East Sussex railway.
Originally drawn for 2mm scale by Alan of Etched Pixels he very kindly agreed to produce a 3mm version and uploaded it to the Shapeways website where I duly ordered and paid.
I must say the service from Shapeways is exceptional and arrived within 48 hours of being ordered. The moulding is of good quality, see pics below
Have not yet figured how to motorise it and there will be a fair bit of work to do but looks promising. The prototype had 3’1″ wheels which equates to 9mm in 3mm scale and the Society do some driving wheels which I hope will be okay more so for the gearbox too otherwise might have to use 9mm wagon wheels.
Here are some drawings courtesy of the Colonel Stephens Society of which I am a member.
