Croydon Model Railway Society Competition 2023

Had the honour of being invited to judge entries in the annual modelling competition by members of Croydon MRS this evening. My fellow judge was Greg Marshall, Chair of Beckenham & W Wickham Model Railway Club.

Entries were to the usual high standard & congratulations to all those you entered and thanks for to Richard Millington for the invite.

Bognor Regis MRE 2023

Went to my first model railway exhibition of 2023, Bognor Regis in the Felpham Community College, specifically to see a 3mm layout, Hanton Tarrant (ex Bulverhythe)

Also there was one of my favourite layouts "Bembridge", nice to meet Mark Pretorius

There was also Harlyn Pier

Beckenham & West Wickhams Staple & Ash was also there, a model based on the East Kent Railway

Then last but least there was Horsebridge an EM layout

Other layouts were there but not enough to warrant my photographer interest, getting very fussy. Overall a decent show though and nice to see it busy.

Low relief for Tankerton

Brought 3 of the Greenwood TT:120 wood laser cut kits. TT:120 I hear you ask? Plan for forced perspective to hid the fiddle siding at the back of the layout on Tankerton Town.

Construction so far from rainy Essex 

Further progress 2/1/23

First stage painting 8/1/23 - Coat of red oxide primer to seal the wood and act as as base coat. Then acrylic paint, Sienna & raw umber apples by sponge. 24 hrs to dry then next stage.

Adding the mortar course - pre cleanup. Ready mixed filler is applied and wiped off straight away leaving the mortar lines, simple but effective.
