It's Hornbys fault - a Terrier in TT:120! So that led to pre ordering the freight set with the B4 and thoughts of a layout. Well have a spare Tim Horn baseboard and an Iain Rice plan so let's see where this takes us!
Hi Steve, Has your TT:120 set arrived yet? I've amassed a small collection of Continental (mainly East German) outline TT and some of the Peco track and points, with the idea of building a small layout; I'd be interested to see what you make of the Terrier and B4. Will you be coming to Steyning in March? Look forward to seeing if so. Happy New Year etc., Simon.
Hi Simon, The B4 is a lovely model and a great runner. Liked the set so much got 2. Also brought the BR version Terrier but not had much opportunity to give it a run. Now Little Common - still fiddling about with the trackwork, like to include an Inglenook set up as I like shunting. Not keen on the couplings though, looking at Dapol magnetic Nem pocket type - expensive but better for shunting. Happy 2026.& Roll on Steyning. Steve
Excellent! I suspect Hornby will sell more sets to existing enthusiasts than beginners...there's already someone using a B4 chassis as the basis for a 00n3 pugbash. I feel the couplings look OK on continental and more modern (larger) British stock, and they seem to work reasonably well, but I may end up fitting something more discreet...DGs or even Greenwich 009 might be OK. Are you planning to do anything with the train set wagons? Light railway coaches, perhaps? I was going to pop to Derails in Coleford for some more track and points yesterday, but they were closed due to staff holidays, so I'll pop back next week. I'm also thinking of a small shunting layout; there's 110x26cm IKEA LACK in the garage and I've got a few suitable building kits, road vehicles, etc. The Roco BR80 and Arnold Köf are both excellent slow runners. I'm bringing an 0-16.5 micro to Steyning, and there's the little matter of a couple of locos needing to be built by then, so I hope the time doesn't pass TOO quickly! Cheers, Simon.
